So, you want to pull on
something comfy, yet fashionable that will be perfect for an afternoon (or day)
out with the girls, parents, boyfriend, etc?
Dear beloved
sweat pants & trusty t-shirt,
You are
just not going to cut it today. So sorry (I am actually going to leave the
house and go to more than just wal-mart). I will be back for some quality time
the next rainy Saturday and we will have many more special days to come, I am
sure….JUST NOT TODAY!
Much
love,
Me.
Out of the closet comes the
beautiful white, lace summer dress that you can always trust to be the perfect
go to essential. It makes you feel like a princess in the summer, right?! To
make it feel a little more like personalized, add some accessories: chunky
bracelets, chandelier earrings, bangles perhaps? In my case, I would add
tiffany heart earrings, a chunky turquoise necklace, and a fun, funky bracelet.
You may be looking at that dress
saying it looks just like the last two-hundred times you have worn it. So, add
a belt to it, skinny or thick (that is up to you), wrap a ribbon around it a
couple times. Find delicate necklaces to wrap around the straps to add dimension
and dangle around your shoulders (or ribbon, or thread). Try things out, take a
picture of yourself, look it over, if it doesn’t work try something else. If it
works, well, I am sure you know what to do; GO ROCK THAT LOOK!
Moving on to shoes, oh, one of
my favorite subjects. I am sure you are going straight for your favorite
worn-everyday-pair. STOP. I know we are talking about comfort; we are also
talking about fashion. You have to have more than one pair of comfortable
shoes, right?! So, try other combinations before you head straight for the
worn-out shoes already by the door. Boots are a great choice this season, no
matter what the season. There are also a great variety of sandals out there.
Celebrate your feet, but keep comfort in mind! If you can wear heels and walk
miles and still be completely comfortable, I hate you, ok maybe not truly HATE
but still, come on. Keep in mind, the fashion magazines are great for inspiration,
but put your own spin on things!
Mmmm, just as good as shoes,
bags. As far as I am concerned right now there is only one possible bag to go
with my outfits, the Lucky Brand Abbey Road, in teal. You can choose whatever
you feel goes well with this outfit; messenger, hobo, clutch, etc. I am a big
supporter of colored accessories. Especially bags. I think they bring a lot of
attitude to an outfit, and it you find one that really expresses your personal
style, it really says a lot about you as an individual, in purely a cosmetic
sense.
This being stated, I love my
hair, I love doing it, but it takes FOREVER! So, I adore hats. I have all my
life. When I was little I wore pots on my head, wrapped scarves around my head,
put diapers on my head (oh, yes…its true). I have been a lover of all things milliner
since a very young age. So, for this outfit I have chosen a charming knit beret
to add a pop of color. What is your favorite kind of hat? I am not sure I could
answer that question myself…..but I am looking forward to your answers!
Last but not least, I always
grab a cardigan or sweatshirt in case of cool weather or insane air-conditioning.
This is usually draped over my bag, or in my bag so I don’t have to deal with
it all the time. For this I have picked a light, knit purple cardigan that can
be worn over the whole outfit or belted over the dress for a more defined
shape. There are so many choices when it comes to outerwear! My mom would tell
you all how obsessed I am with coats and other such things. Capes, caplets,
trench coats, military jackets (the fashionable kind please), jean jackets,
cropped jackets, etc; I could go on and on.
This outfit seems perfect for an
afternoon shopping in SoHo. Followed by an early evening picnic with a charming
young man of cheese, sandwiches, wine, raspberries & chocolate; followed by
a stroll with a puppy and a little game of fetch. Maybe back to his place for a
movie??
What does your comfy yet
fashionable outfit look like & where would you wear it?

Kat
P.S. Good luck to all of those
students returning to class! I am just about to run all over campus to get
books and things too, so I feel your pain.

Hello
Lovelies!
So I am
sure you, my beautiful smart readers can guess what I am going to gush about
from the lovely montage of pictures I put together for your viewing,, may I
introduce the current love of my fashionista life (I love C so much more than
this bag) :
The Abbey Road Hand Bag By Lucky Brand
Oh, it is
a beauty! It’s made of Iamb leather, with a cloth interior. Multiple interior
pockets to help organize, including a zippered pocket. There is also an
exterior zippered pocket. The strap has many positions that it can be secured
in, two different lengths of ‘messenger bag’ (or over the shoulder/across the
body) style & two different lengths for under the arm carrying.. As you can
see there are also handles to carry by hand or on the crook of your arm if you
wish (it is also possible to slip this over your shoulder if you have skinny
shoulders), this changes the appearance
of the bag dramatically (the size also). There are a great range of color
choices for this fabulous bag;: white, black, tan, purple, teal, cranberry,
silver (I think, I could be wrong), and a brown & tan with a really cool
leather flower on it.
My mom
and I were out on one of our many shopping trips together when we found this
great bag. We both instantly fell in love and couldn’t stop talking about it
the rest of the day. This talking continued on for months. We would pick out
outfits and then think about how perfectly they would go with the Lucky bag.
So, eventually we both had to give in and each get our own. My mom got the
brown & tan bag with the leather flower. I chose the teal bag (the one
pictured in the montage above). I LOVE IT. I am so excited to use it (I am
saving it for New York…more on that in a little bit)!
Buffalo
Plaid is another one of my current fashion choices. When I saw the picture
featured in the upper left-hand corner of the montage, I knew it was an outfit
I was going to do my own personal twist on. I love the long-sleeves rolled up
and paired with shorts, the boots, and of course I can’t get enough of the
wonderful bag.
As I
hinted towards earlier, I will be going to New York for a couple days. My mom
and I will be going shopping, to a couple museums, shows, the Statue of Liberty
(my mom has never been to it), and many other locations that I cannot wait to
tell you all about. I am so excited about the pictures to come and adventures
and stories I will have to share with you all.
I have
planned out so many of my outfits already, I am traveling as light as possible
since I can only take a carry on and one personal item (yes, I know…ouch!), so
I have to plan ahead!

Here is my rendition of the outfit pictured in
the first montage. I will of course be accessorizing with my Lucky Brand Abbey
Road bag in teal and usual jewelry which consists of my tiffany heart necklace
(on a ball chain that can be worn long or short, I wear it all the time), hoop
earrings (the earrings change with my mood), my blue cocktail ring, my roman
numeral ring (from C), my tanzanite and diamond ring from my grandparents,
& the wedding band of my great grandmother and grandmother (worn on my
tiffany necklace). The shoes pictured are close to what I will be wearing…I
couldn’t find a picture of the exact ones, BCBG black patent with a gold zipper
up the side. And of course big sunnies (sunglasses…we just had some guests from
New Zealand, they taught me many new phrases).
Do you
usually plan your outfits when you go on trips?
What bag
are you currently crazy for?
Are you
into the current wayfarer sunglasses craze?
Where
have you gone this summer?

...Im your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me...
...Promise i'll be kind,
But i won't stop until that boy is mine
Baby you'll be famous
Chase you down until you love me...
...I'll be your girl
Backstage at your show,
Velvet ropes and guitars…
Lately, Ihave spent lots of time looking at wedding pictures for inspiration and ideasfor a wedding that I will soon be a photographer at. There are so manybeautiful weddings out there! I have gotten many great ideas. I must say thatlooking at all these photos makes me want to plan my own wedding. So, I thoughtI would share some of my preliminary thoughts on the subject with you, since Iam nowhere near the walk down the aisle myself! This is one of those specialevents in my life that I have thought about for years and the plans evolveevery time.
I fell inlove with the vintage style veil, the one that just covers the face. A lot likethe one that Reese Witherspoon wears down the aisle in Sweet Home Alabama (2002). After a little bit of research, Ihave come to find this particular kind of veil is known as a birdcage veil. Tolook as some different birdcage designs, browse through Unveiled Bridal Designs. They have such greatideas!
Theparasol is just idyllic. How romantic?? I just love how they look in thepictures. Have the whole wedding party have them. Decorate with them. I foundpictures from a really cool outdoor wedding where the guests were sittingwatching the service holding many different colored lace parasols. The effectwas beautiful! There are so many different shapes, colors, and textures (lace, ruffled, etc.) of parasols out there, they can be fun on a sunny day to makeany outfit pop. Also, they protect you from the sun to keep your skin lookingyoung and vibrant!
Oh, callalilies. The white and purple calla lilies are called Vermeer Calla Lilies, which are currently the lilies I would like my bouquet to be made out of. I amadoring purple right now, can you tell? I have loved the calla lily for a long time;I was so excited to find it with a purple accent. Mmm, the small pleasures inlife.
How can wetalk about the details of a wedding and wedding photography and not talk aboutshoes? So many wedding photos now feature pictures of just the bride’s shoes. Now, I knew that I would have pictures of my shoes on my special day, noquestion there (my purse will be photographed too), but I did not realize itwas such a wide spread phenomenon. One of the more prevalent trends latelyseems to be colored shoes. This looks so glamorous! Deep purple is the colorthat will adorn my feet. I am dying to know who makes the shoes that the bride iswearing (in the lower right hand corner) in my little photo collage. If youknow who they are by, PLEASE let me know!
Thepicture in the middle is fantastic. Featuring the shoes, gorgeous color, andthe rings, *sigh* glam.
I includedthe clips from, Paparazzi by Lady GaGa because these specific are perfect forthis post! “I’m your biggest fan I’ll follow you until you love me.” When youlisten to this song do you really think of it as a love song, why not? “Promisei'll be kind, but i won't stop until that boy is mine.” See what I am gettingat? No? Oh well. I think it is romantic.
What doesyour dream wedding look like? What songs do you find sweet or romantic thataren’t typically viewed that way?

Hello Dearest TopHat Lovers,
I am so sorry for the prolonged
absence. It is not one that has been planned. Many things have happened that
have made it very difficult to sit down and write at the current moment. But,
please do not give up on me just yet, I will be back soon, I promise.
My Grandma passed away, very
unexpectedly yesterday, while I was visiting her in Florida. So, there are many
things that will be going on in the next few days & week in her honor. Family
will be arriving from all over the country in the coming hours and days &
there are services to plan.
I will be back as soon as possible. I
miss you all.

P.S. I saw this video of Lady GaGa’s appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show and I can’t get enough of that ‘hat.’ It’s fabulous! What do you lovelies think??

Things I Learned Today (well, maybe not
specifically today):
*I LOVE to send my friends little surprises
in the mail.
*Cocktail rings make me feel sparkly and
regal.
*I’m getting a new cell phone & I’m
so excited about it. I use my phone so much; having a new phone just makes me
smile.
*I love ADORE vintage hats.
Especially the ones with netting on them that fall down over the eyes. They
make me feel sexy and mysterious.
*I finally got a Starbucks Cold Drink Tumbler
this week. I wanted one so bad last summer, but they sold out sooo fast. I
haven’t stopped using it.
*I wear big sunglasses all the time, they
make me feel pretty. Like Jackie O. or Audrey Hepburn.
*I’m looking forward to all of the traveling that I am going to be doing in the next couple of months. So many adventures I will have to share with all of us!

This is my
first DIY blog! So, if I completely miss anything, PLEASE let me know.
Materials
you will need:
·
Headband(s)
and/or hair clip(s)
·
Feathers,
choose colors to your liking!
·
Felt
or backing (which can be purchased at any fabric store)
·
Scissors
·
Thread
(I used black to match the feathers I was using)
·
Needle,
a long one is best
·
Hairspray,
optional (not pictured)
Step One: Cut out a tear drop shape out of the felt, a little bit smaller then the size you would like the feather “patch” to be. To do this I cut out a smaller square and folded it in half before I cut the tear drop shape.

I
chose to do all black feathers on the bottom with just a few multi-colored ones
on top.
I used feathers from an old mask that was laying around and feathers from a local craft store.
Step Three: Sew the feathers onto
the felt teardrop (using the needle and thread, if you do not know how to hand
sew…google it!) in an arrangement you like.

Step Four: Sew felt & feather
piece onto headband or hair clip.
If sewing onto headband, make sure to try headband on and
find the best placement for the feather piece before sewing.
If sewing onto hair clip, make sure open end of the hair
clip is pointing away from the tip of the teardrop.
I have chosen to make the hair clip. I placed the clip at the very base of the point of the teardrop. Place yours wherever you are comfortable.
Here is the OPTIONAL step. Lightly spray the feathers with hairspray and smooth into desired pattern. This will help reduce the shedding of loose feather pieces. Beware, with some dyed feathers, this may cause the dye to become spotted and smear (I suggest testing it on some leftover scraps before attempting on your final piece!). SKIP this step if you would like your hair piece to be on the fluffier side.

Now, go out somewhere and look fabulous with your new accessory!
Oh, might I mention its a fraction the price of those in the stores and one of a kind?
FANTASTIC.
Kisses & Cupcakes,
Kat
